When we, Randy Verhasselt and Lisa Macco founded evolutions in design in 1998 we gave up secure jobs at another business in town. We knew we were heading for a unique adventure, an experience like no other for our customers and ourselves.
The inspiration for this unique flower store was the sighting of a round barn in western Marathon County. This barn, as it stood alone in the late afternoon sun, seemed to embody the attributes that we had envisioned for a new venture. The unusual, one of a kind structure must have seemed to fly in the face of convention when it was constructed over 100 years ago. It was physical evidence of a concept that we were in the process of developing, which was to have a store without the usual appearance of a typical flower shop, a space in which there would be constant physical change, where things would continually evolve. Thus, evolution in design was born, a retail
experience like no other in central Wisconsin.
Our goal was to be unlike any other retail store, being that we both worked in the floral and gift industry we knew we could create a shopping experience that did not exist in Central Wisconsin. The desire was to employ what we had learned through our experience to create an environment that would stand alone in its uniqueness, just as the round barn does. We envisioned a store that customers would find original and refreshing, a place that people would seek out, time after time, because of the ever-changing designs. Our goal was to create not just a new way to experience and buy fresh flowers, but a whole new shopping experience.
